By now, you should know that we have a fantastic view of the reservoir from our windows.
If you don’t, here are more pictures…

View from our bedroom.
View from the bedroom.

View from our bedroom.
Closer look.
On a windy day… the water moving rapidly.
Almost like the sea… a very calm one.

We often get envious look from our visitors as Yuncheng is a pretty ‘dry’ place.
The humidity level here is also higher too.
And because of the open space, in summer, its relatively cooler compared to the old estate.

I once shared that, we have Nature right at our doorstep!
There were some ducks swimming.
Ass up. And heads down in the water, fishing.
We too had some swan-like birds in the reservoir and once I saw an owl at night, by the reservoir.

Someone once fished two huge fishes from the reservoir. It took us a few meals to finish it.
And just yesterday, a massive flock of birds were flying in circles above reservoir.

However, there’s a price to pay to live right next to the nature.
Because we are also at nature’s doorsteps!
Bugs, worms and insects’ doorsteps!
They come crawling and flying into our homes.
Despite having screened windows, they somehow find their way in.

I was once freaked out by a big spider and its massive cobweb outside our windows.

And we hate mosquitoes!!!
For the past 6-7 weeks, our war with mosquitoes begins at night fall.
I wonder where the mosquitoes are in the day but at night, attracted by lights, they gather at the living room.
We use a electric tennis-racket-like to electrocute the mosquitoes. With a burned smell, they are then reduced to ashes.
The nanny with an alert Amanda in her arm ‘patrol’ around the living room, looking for mosquitoes.
Once a mosquito is spotted, Dp and I will be called to attack.
On a busy night last week, we probably killed 10 or more!

Not only they bite (and only me sometimes!), having them buzzing around my ears can keep me up all night.
We now have to light one of these old school mosquito incense before going to bed every night,
hoping to keep them away and not buzz above our heads.

Our war with the mosquitoes - beforeOur war with the mosquitoes - after
Before and After.

I know there are some electric mosquito incense to keep mosquitoes away but somehow have little effect on the mosquitoes here!
I saw a mosquito flying above the the electric mosquito incense unaffected.

Damn! They are fierce.

A friend living in the same estate said mosquito bit her son’s ears,
it swelled and became huge like 猪八戒‘s!
Fortunately, Amanda has her very own mosquito net to keep them away!

After months of waiting (and complaining) and a month & half, of living back in the old home…
Our life is perfect again… All because the central air conditioner in our very own Home is finally UP!

It feels good to be moving back to our Home for GOOD!!!
And in another 2 weeks, the company will be moving to the massive new headquarters across the estate.
Then, Dp will be able to cycle to work, instead of our daily to-and-fro drive.

Fave photo corner in our home.
Fave corner. Photos and souvenir from vacations.
Will add pictures of Lil’ judebabe, in years to come.

Our fave from Hawaii...
Fave from Hawaii.
Seashells from Ritz Carlton Sanya, nightly turn-down service.
B/W background pictures from NYC street vendors.

The central air conditioner didn’t work at first and took the team a 2 days and 4 times to get it right.
We spent a night at the sauna center as we couldn’t deal with the disappointment of having no air conditioner for another night.
It was the worst decision for me.
The bed was really hard for my heavy body and heavy “curves”.

We have always wondered what is it like to be living and sleeping in our very own Home, in summer, with air conditioner…
Well, its absolutely wonderful not having to wake up to sweaty hair and sticky body.
We were also lucky that the air conditioner was up just before another heatwave…
Days of unbearable heat of 37 deg.!
We both hugged and danced in our home, the very first night the air conditioner was finally UP!

We finally turned our beautiful light on… which we rarely did since getting it, its high watts contributed heat to the already hot living room.

With the new found comfort in our home, I too found the time and effort to be efficient.
I re-organized both our hospital bag. Packing Lil’ judebabe diaper clothes, gloves, booties and stuff separately.
I too took time to read the operation instructions for bottle sterilizer and bottle /food warmer.
As well as time, to take the above pictures.

Another weekend is here!
Time been flying especially FAST for the past few months… *Dp nods with agreement*
A few more weekends to go… before life becomes Perfect of another kind.

We also have a home issues to iron out before Lil’ judebabe arrives.
*Clock ticking*

PS: Wanted to post this yesterday, after the first night of having air conditioner.
But the main electricity was out… it didn’t seem so perfect then. :-p

in Her Life,Her Loft(s)

We used to love our ceiling lamp in the living room.

loft & lights.
Lamp and loft.

We love the contemporary chrome finish that fits our city/loft theme apartment.
Or rather “City” in the village! theme.

Old lights.
Close-up of the 30 arms and bulbs.

We too love the style of this unconventional (-to the taste of our local guests) lamp, our guest are often puzzled… trying to understand our choice, taste and the ‘beauty’ of this lamp.

Living room. View from the loft.
Living Room. View from the loft.

Best bit: Its a replica of an iconic Flos 2097 lamp designed in the 1950s.
And we got this lamp cheap online…

We were really proud of our choice until… [click to continue…]

Have not been able to get online for days.

The day after we returned from Sanya, we did not have electricity at our new home for days.
The entire estate was affected too… And they couldn’t get to repair sooner as it has been raining heavily too.
And the thing about new home, when there is no electricity, there is also no water.
In short, there is nothing to do in the dark, you can’t cook or take a dump.

Fortunately, we could return and stayed in our old room.
A friend also living in the estate had to check-in to a sauna center.

I didn’t suffer from any internet usage withdrawal.
And I think my back is thanking me for it.
(The same reason, why I chose to quit playing the very addictive facebook app, Bejeweled.)
I spent most of my time in bed watching Hong Kong drama, E.U and Dexter Season 3.

We have kinda moved to our new Home for good, for more than a month now.
With very low occupancy, Dp loves the quietness… (satellite TV and faster internet connection!)

But somehow, there seem to be drama/issues relating to home popping up every week.

The day Mom and Ashley arrive, our instant water heater died.
After several calls and no spare parts, we had to re-install a new water heater, just hours before their arrival.
Which we initially dislike it for its bulkiness and removed it right after installation.
Oh well, its working very very well for us now.

There was peace for a week during Mom and Ashley’s stay… *phew*
After spending a week in Beijing, we returned to find rotting food in the fridge and no electricity in our guest room, balcony and kitchen.
It took a few electricians and a few days to solve the problem.
We were so close to breaking our floor tiles to get to the wires.
Turn out, the renovation workers from the floor below somehow managed to puncture the wiring tubes and broke our wire.
It was also easier to break their false ceiling than our tiles.

Then the following week, we returned to our former apartment for nap & lunch break.
We found the living room flooded. And stuffs on the floor, in our room soaked.
The In-laws were away and thus it was too late when we found out.
The management was testing the central heating and heater in the living room broke had to let out the water… from the pressure.
It wasn’t the first time our apartment was flooded…

Then 2 weeks before… A very loud glass-shattering sound made me jump when I was home alone.
3 wall tiles in our master bathroom fell.
The tiles couldn’t hold and stay very well on the wooden board that covers the huge pipes in the bathroom.
And we may very well have to change the rest of the tiles also on the wooden board.

Soooo much for Peace and Quiet at the new HOME!!!

*Thought I better post this before I get busy with Mommy and Ashley when they are here.

Dp and I have been spending our last 2 weekends in… our New Home! :-p
(Oh yes! How I wished we spent our weekend in somewhere Glamourous.)

Dp loved it here.
He said its quiet here.
(Except from the knocking from the renovation works around us… which starts at 7a.m and ends when we are awake.)
Away from all the same people we see everyday at the company and the estate.
The best bit-He gets to choose and watch soccer matches from various sports channels on our satellite cable.

He loves (no! HE LOVES!) the satellite cable.
Took him months since 2008, to finally make it right this year.
There was one time when the satellite cable lost its signal while I was fixing our speaker’s cable.
It wasn’t my fault but the damn cable just happened to lose the damn signal just when I was fixing the damn speaker.

And IF Dp’s stare could kill… I would have died. No joke.

Here are the pictures from the weekends.

The beams and loft in our Living room.
Our favorite. The loft. And the ceiling light.

The Sunset and the Lake.
The Sunset and the Lake.
From our window.
The view will only get better with summer comes and when the young trees and plants grow.

We planning for a BBQ session in mid-April. When the weather is warm enough.
Going to have feast by the lake.
I am keeping my fingers crossed.
That the mosquitoes and flies are not out to feast too.

The Food. I cooked. I am warming-up to the many years of hiatus.
I am getting adventurous. Can’t wait for the ingredients I got from online to arrive.

Full English Breakfast.
Substituted the sausages with luncheon meat.
The sausages here in Yuncheng isn’t hearty / sinful enough.

My 1st fried egg curse.
It usually take me the second time, to get it right each time.
So if I want 2 perfect fried eggs.
I need to fry 3 eggs. Its like a curse or something.

Mee Siam.
Mee Siam. Paste from Singapore.
For the home-sick me. For the Singapore-food-sick Dp.
Didn’t soaked the rice vermicelli long enough. It wasn’t soft enough.
We had indigestion that night.

Failed attempt in Fried Bee Hoon
Failed attempt in Fried Bee Hoon. OUR favorite breakfast in Singapore.
My Mom would buy us that every morning when we are back home.
I had it almost every morning for 3 weeks.
And in light of the indigestion the night before. I over-soaked the rice vermicelli this time.
Too soggy. But at least, I got the taste right.

Something to go along with our Bee Hoon.
Something to go along with our Fried Bee Hoon.
Luncheon Meat again. Leftovers from English breakfast. :-&
We ate a lot eggs too that weekend.

Oyster Sauce Chicken.
The very first dish I learned to cook… when I was 14.
It was for my Home Economics test then.
My teacher loved it. I could remember that surprised look from her face.
Well, it was very tasty coz Mom marinated it the day before.

Delicious homecook and boiled soup is coming my way.
Will be picking Mom and Ashley from the Yuncheng airport tonight.

Dp will be talking to the renovation workers.
Hope that they start knocking at 8 a.m., earliest.
So that Mom and Ashley can sleep in later.

EXCITED. :-)

The new home has been our hangout place for the weekends.
We sit around and watch TV (received via our own not-legal satellite dish!)
Not a lot of programs yet but we are hoping to add more soon!

Anyway, the whole of last week was pretty much what life living in the ‘village’ is totally about. INCONVENIENCES.
NO HOT WATER! Most homes do not have water heater and use the hot water supplied.

We had to go to the sauna center for 3 consecutive nights last week.
By the 4th night, I was so sick of sauna center that I boiled my own hot water!
And on the 5th night, we decided to shower at our new home and stay over after the shower.
Hence our first night in our new home.

DP keeping warm under a typical red Chinese village print duvet.

OUR BIG EMPTY BEDROOM. 1/3 filled.

Other than the lack of storage space in our current room…
(The current apartment is massive 2000sq feet but are filled with mostly Dp’s dad stuff, the other shopaholic in the house!)
I too hated the shower in our current home. I have to stand into the bathtub to shower.
And for a while when we moved back to Yuncheng from Beijing years ago, we only shower at the sauna center.
Fortunately, with the new apartment both the problems are solved.

We now have so much space that we don’t know what to fill them with.

Dp and I, we are both so used to living in small spaces -Fitting everything you own in one room-
Since the days living in a 3 sq meter dorms in University, later a rented 50 sq meter Studio apartment in Beijing Sunshine100 and now a mere 9 sq meter small room in Yuncheng.

We slept really early last night but we didn’t sleep well.
New BIG environment. New bed. New pillow.
Maybe we will sleep better tonight.
(Edit: We slept much better on the second night!)

We are planning to light the firecrackers -moving in ceremony- this Friday.

We have been moving stuffs (mostly clothes) everyday.
Dp complains that I am slow with the moving…
I argued that I am slow because I am not even sure if we are staying there when its get colder and with no central heating.
Our home is definitely not environment friendly… We use too much electricity!
The lighting, the water heater and now the portable heater!
Energy savings bulb and beautiful lights hardly goes well together.

He also said that if I am moving one bag a day it will take me a year!!!
And then go on saying that despite the pretty empty home (little furniture),
most of the valuables (the BAGS) are in the walk-in wardrobe…
… …

You guys know that he’s only joking right!!!??? :-p

I can’t wait to go Beijing next weekend to buy stuff to fill our bare apartment.
