SevenEleven – 2011

in Her Life

SevenEleven – 2011, originally uploaded by judebabe.

This post only 3 days late.
What an accomplishment for me.

I flew home a day before my birthday with a detour at Xiamen for Dp’s uni class reunion.
We were only back in China from Europe, last Wednesday.

It’s really important for me to celebrate my birthday with Amanda and family.

It was also a good decision made, better than celebrating with, DP.
He was a day late and got the dates mixed up.
I am so Glad that I left him behind, alone in our cold apartment in China.
And for the third day this week, there hasn’t been any power or heat in our area.

To get Amanda excited about birthdays, I let her her choose my birthday cake.

She is into things that are black, these days, but when I told her I wanted a cake in white and with fruits, she picked a right one.
But I decided to go with a black forest cake, for her.

And she was very happy with the many many candles.
Couldn’t say the same for the lady selling me the cake.
She took quite a while to count the candles.

As for the late post, this birthday i also wish to improve my time management.
Something I am really bad at.
So many things to do.
I am so distracted that I often forget to finish what I have started to do.

And the best birthday present, my baby girl, who looks at me all day, smiles with with a silly silly grin, 妈妈你回来啦!
In fact, she was too happy and too lost for words at the airport.

And yes, something from the famous 31 rue Cambon in Paris.

I love how birthdays fall on the weekend. For Amanda, its falls on Sunday, this year.
Its was a whole weekend of fun and activities.

Seeing how everyone enjoyed Amanda’s One-year-old party
I was encouraged to throw another party this year, an occasion to gather the friends and kids and to have fun!

This year, Amanda chose the Hello Kitty theme, its pink enough, and I am reserving other characters, Dora or Minnie, or Barney, for her future birthdays.
Even with the help of the event planner, who did the setup, I was also feeling stressed about the shopping of party favors and games for the kids.

The day before, Amanda was really excited about the much bigger version of herself.
The very cooperative Amanda posed for me in front of the massive poster.

We were out Saturday morning, for some final shopping for the party.
We had her favorite fries, fried chicken and chocolate sundae for lunch.
Amanda sits very still in her chair and finishes her wings / drumsticks, every time.

Yum Yum!

The little girl prefers wearing her hair up in tiny buns these days.
And had these cute little curls, when we undo her little buns for her afternoon nap.

Cute hair. Cute foot.

It was tiring running after and dressing a well-rested toddler.
We almost have to pin her to the wall, just for this shot before getting out.

Our Lil’ judebabe is TWO.

When I knew that I was pregnant with Lil’ judebabe, I want to raise a confident girl, girlie and yet, daring.
She is very sociable and is comfortable around people. And very quickly, with strangers.
Play her favorite track and she will dance for everyone in room.

Put her in a dress, and she will dance and twirl around the room in it.
Put her in the playground, she climbs up in agile movements, and goes down the slide on her belly.

She would be playing with her dolls and kitchen sets this minute but gets on her tricycle or scoots around the house on her scooter next.

She is well-liked, and readily greets Daddy’s n Mummy’s friends and everyone in our estate.
She sometimes surprises people and me, because she greets them loudly and even before I had the chance to ask her too.
And her “Byes Byes”…, well, she won’t stop till you acknowledged her.
I guess I started early, even when she was a young baby, I would carry her around the room, greeting people.
And say our Byes, when we leave.

I know it’s too early to tell, and kids become shy when they grow older, but at two years old, I am glad that she is close to what i hoped for her to be.

Time for Birthday Cake!

Amanda could sing the Birthday Song in both English and Mandarin, and knew it was her birthday, but she didn’t sing or clapped along, like I expected her to.
She must have been overwhelmed with the number of people at her party, with about 60 in the room, and with the rest waiting outside for the BBQ dinner to officially start.
In total, we had more than 120 guests.

Things then start going out of control, a 3 year old blew out the candles on the cake (the only thing I was upset about), I expected the cake to come with a cake knife, but it didn’t and the “Hello Kitty” on the cake turned out distorted, and also it started to rain on and off.

Normally the control-freak-me, would have gotten upset, but the atmosphere was so great, that the party guest didn’t mind moving the tables in and out, and there were enough cakes, sweets, party favors, games, activities for the kids, and the adults loved the food and there were lots of booze for them.

Even though it was supposedly to be a party for family with kids,
But we live in community made up of staff of the company that Amanda’s Grandpa built, Everyone, young and old in our estate came. Even though, we didn’t formally invite some of them…
Which was perfectly fine with us, since the party wasn’t just for Amanda and the kids, we wanted it to be for everyone we know!
And judging from the many empty bottles of Chinese rice wine, I think the long-times comrades of Amanda’s Grandpa, had just as much fun as their grandchildren.

Pinata Frenzy

And the highlight… Everyone’s first time with Pinata.

Pinata Frenzy

Pinata Frenzy

At first, the kids didn’t know what to expect but after they heard that there were lollipops, sweets, and small toys in the pinata, the bigger boys (they secretly channeled the power of their favorite heroes) used their might to hit and break the pinata.

Either the quality of the pinata was too good, or it was filled with too much goodies, that made it difficult to break.
With the little damage, we decided to rip open the pinata for the very eager kids.

Pinata Frenzy

When the content fell out of the pinata, the frenzy began, kids were screaming and picking up sweets and toys on the floor.

Pinata Frenzy

After the pinata frenzy, there were clay dolls for kids to paint and calm down.

Amanda wasn’t interested in the clay dolls, took pictures with some of her party guests –

Selina, the other very popular baby girl of the night.

It would have been a perfect night under the Stars / LEDs…
If it didn’t rain…or if the electric power didn’t go out…

DSC00663

What a party!!!

I think we were pretty lucky that the power went off, at 9 plus, it was time for the kids to return home too!
I was glad that the handy reading lights and other flashing toys came in handy.

When the lights came on, those who stayed, had another round of BBQ food.
I didn’t eat till most of the guest left, I was too busy with the activities and chatting with friends.
We requested the mobile BBQ stall to stay till late… we were lucky that they prepared a lot more than we told them to.
As the turn out was much more than we expected.

That night, we returned home late, and I couldn’t sleep.
My legs were tired. And Amanda was sleeping with the nanny in her room.
It wasn’t till 5a.m., when Amanda woke up wanting to look for us, and it was then, I was only able to sleep with her in our bed.

On Amanda’s birthday, the next day, we had lunch with Family. Amanda’s GrandParents, Grand Uncles and Grand Aunties.

DSC00686

DSC00678DSC00675DSC00677DSC00682

And in the evening, we brought her to the newly-opened indoor playground. With few of her favourite 哥哥s.
With her recent bout of skin infection, I have been hesitant in bringing her to the playground.
I decided it would be a treat for her if I just relax.

DSC00693

She had so much fun that day, that I brought her to the playground again with Helios 哥哥.

The new indoor playground, has a fun slides, sand pitch and a pool for kids to fish.
I pity the poor fishes, who are subjected to the severe mishandling of the kids.

Amanda turns 2.

September 3, 2011

in Her Baby,Her Life

I'm Two! Peace!
I’m TWO! *Peace*

Amanda turns terrific 2 this weekend!

She was delighted to see a massive poster of herself, and said “Big QiQi“, where event planners were setting up the place.
She happily stood still and posed for me to take pictures.
Its increasingly difficult for us to take clear pictures of her face. That I sometimes take videos instead.

Last week, at Amanda’s playgroup, I had a taste of what its going to be like with a 2 year old toddler.
She kept running out of the classroom.
If I were in the classroom, she would be looking for the nanny, if the nanny is with her, she would be looking for me.
And if I let her out, and not chase after her, she ran to the playroom when the slides are.
Arrgh! Wish me luck and lots of patience.

Anyway, we engaged the help of event planners this year.
We didn’t have enough tables and chairs for our guest last year.
And also after a tiring attempt of setting up the place and failed attempt of filling the balloon with helium gases, I decided some things are better left for the professionals.

Today, Amanda saw the truck pulling her Hello Kitty party balloons on the road.
She covered her mouth, gasped and squealed.
She didn’t know that they were hers… yet!!!

With girlie pink gifts coming in, I expect her to be really excited when we bring to her party venue later!

You think Daddy and Mummy will let me drive in another… 16 years?

We are celebrating a day earlier. So that adults and kids can stay out later!

It was a great birthday celebration for many reasons.

- It was a long weekend.
- DP arrived on early Friday morning and Andrew was back from camp early.
- This the 3rd time I spent my birthday with Family since 2003. And the 1st, with everyone I love close to me!…

I will always remember the 1st birthday I had in Beijing in 2004, I was down with a nasty flu and had a cup of awful latte and slice of cake opposite the hospital DPs dad was in.

The Birthday subsequently got better, and I also haven’t had a cake since 2005
Dp’s Sis and Aunt were were exchanging funny looks, like I am too old for a cake, taking photo with a cake or to be celebrating birthday even.

Birthdays weren’t in a big thing for them when they were young or in the village.
I imagine them slurping up a bowl of birthday noodles, if anyone care enough, before running off to play or work in the fields.

Anyway, I shan’t harp too much.
At 30, I think I am old enough to know and to be contented…

And seriously, when I was in my mid-20s I used to be scared of the approaching 30, I can’t emphasize enough now, but I do think I am in a much better place right now than I was younger.
I was insecure and at times, felt like I need to impress or prove myself.
Now, nothing seems to matter, except that I keep forgeting to suck my stomach in.
In fact, when I look at the 25 yo me, I only saw bad skin, I guess years of being a beauty junkie pays off.

Here are pictures from the weekend :

She kept ‘patting’ the bench and insisted Por-Por sits with her.
And got jealous when Auntie Ashley touch Por-Por.

And since Andrew needed to book in to camp early on the actual day of my birthday, I decided to have my birthday cake a day early.
As well as the very very important Birthday Photo.

Dp said that my blog has now turned into Amanda’s…
This blog is still about me and my shopping, sometimes.
I too have not changed since motherhood
I still love shopping…and spent the whole of yesterday watching Gossip Girl and Desperate Housewives in bed.
Perhaps the only the thing that change since motherhood is the size of my jeans!

Though I wonder if anyone would stop reading now if I said there won’t be any photo of Amanda in this post!
But just my shopping!
My favorite category in this blog, right after Motherhood. :-p

Anyway, I had my nails done the day before my birthday.
Sparkling dark french tips and animal prints nail art on one of my fingers.
Dp’s friend, a guy said it looks as though I have dirt trapped in my nails. :-p

IMG_3147
Gel nail this year, different from last year’s bubblegum acrylic tip.

In the background, my birthday present. LV bleu nuit Sprouse scarf.
I don’t usually do but I did ask Dp fo permission to buy. He was happy to know that opinion counts though he didn’t agree immediately.
I had to keep bugging him to consent.
And when he finally did, it gave an extra meaning to the scarf. hurhur!
I still love the one I got last year!

Also in the picture, my ’08 Birthday present…

The little blue box.
The Tiffany 6 prong platinum setting.

I love the Tiffany’s setting, the platinum and the thick band.
I used to not like solitaire but now I know why, its because most of the jewellers in Singapore have the diamond set on thin bands.
I got the Tiffany in Singapore during my Sept / Oct 08 trip home…

I still have my original e-ring, if you remember, The Rock, but I wasn’t quite satisfied about it…
Some would say that Tiffany are so not worth it, but well One can never go wrong with A TIFFANY!!!

IMG_1598
Reflecting too much light? Hard to capture! :-p

I still love the setting of my original e-ring!!!
The white gold from my original e-ring tarnished very badly and the ring size is too big.
It once slipped off my finger almost rolled into the drain.
Will be re-setting it!!!

Months after buying the ring from Tiffany, I got one of their celebration ring too.
Its was to celebrate my first pregnancy. Perfect! Excuse. Right?
Another to celebrate Amanda’s arrival?
Nah! I have my eyes set on something else!

I am laughing right now.
I started my 2008 Birthday post with the sentence, I AM OFFICIALLY FAT!
If I was fat then, I have to be obese now!

Gosh! I was struggling for almost an hour in my wardrobe this morning just to find a top to go with my new skirt (the only one skirt that fit right now)?
Could have worn a dress but I wanted to find something that’s accessible for Amanda!
I gave up and changed into a new cardigan, jeans and my new suede boots!
I cleaned up and had makeup on! I felt good and happy!

29yo... the last in my 20s.
29yo – The last one of my 20s.

Didn’t expect much for my birthday…
But this birthday turned out to be great!!!

The most unforgettable moment this birthday, would be my long one-sided conversation with Amanda, this morning.
It is tiring baby-talking to an infant and so I decided to sing. And since I am tired of singing nursery rhymes.
I decided to sing “Unchained Melody” Out. Of. Tune.
OOOOoooooohh My Luuurve… My Darrrr-ling…. I hungered for your touchhhhh….
And well, Amanda loved it and coo-ed along with me!!! Very cute!!! Hee!!!

Amanda is also dressed up for the day!
Everything from H&M. Tights from Zara.
Zara has prettier clothes. H&M is slightly cheaper.

Amanda in dress...
With cardigan. Comes in a set. Dp picked this.

IMG_3103
Without cardigan. Love the collar of her onesie worn under the dress.

More photos with Amanda in her nursery.

Think we have the same brows.
Other than the double-chin, I also seeing other resemblance…
We have the same brows. Naturally-shaped fine brows.

IMG_3115
Amanda loves her mobile and sometimes squeal with delight.

Our family.
Other than the background, I think its much better than the one taken at the studio.
Amanda has her Daddy’s forehead!

After the photo taking session in Amanda’s nursery, we headed out for lunch with close friends and Dp’s auntie.
They were all very happy to see Amanda and to gather for lunch.
The table of 11 adults + 3 kids + 1 infant, they had no idea that it was my birthday.
Only Dp, nanny, myself and maybe Amanda knew… I kinda prefer it this way.

The 3 kids were all born in 2007. The two boys, Baby Chang and his cousin were running, jumping on sofa and fighting.
While Baby Zhang was sitting in her high chair, happily eating.
I was secretly relieved that I do not have to deal with hyperactive boys.
At least in the next 2 years or so.

We rested after lunch and then headed out to cycle around our huge estate and the office building.
It was fun and I could finally join Dp. We had only 1 bicycle.
And it was early last week, I received my new bicycle. Its in cream color. I loved it and it definitely deserve a post on its own.
We cycled for 40 minutes. My thighs were wobbly after. I haven’t exercised this hard for almost a year!
Kinda miss those American football session and running on the field.

We then rush home to feed Amanda before heading out to the cinema for a double date.
We caught the Taking of Pelham 123. Again, it was dubbed in chinese but the storyline kinda compensated it.
We too had dinner before returning home.
Both, we have not done in Yuncheng since the arrival of Amanda,
Somehow last week’s trip to Beijing gave us the idea to get out of the house together more often.

I have no birthday cake this year, again!
Well, its fattening anyway… But I will make sure Amanda will have her birthday cake every year!!!
And if I can make 1 birthday wish, I hope I can lose weight soon!!!

I think this birthday is better than the last few I had in China.
And I think its because of Amanda.
I read my older post, then I wondered if one can ever really be ready for motherhood.
My answer is, You can never be. But when it happens, motherhood is the best thing that can happen to anyone. :-p

Off now to play with Amanda…
