beijing

Apart from the one hour wait on the stuffy plane, to take off at the Beijing Airport, we had a wonderful weekend in Beijing.

I have lots of errands to run in Yuncheng.
But decided to stay indoor as its raining outside and I am really really lagging on my updates.

Here are the videos I promised.

A really cute one where Amanda goes Wa-wa-wa…

Not a developmental milestone, but something most babies here learn.
Amanda needed help with her “Wa-wa” in this video.
But that night in bed, when she heard me telling my Dad over the phone, how she can do “Wa-wa” with my help, she decided to do her own “Wa-wa”s!!!
And from then on, when she’s bored in her stroller, she would do her own “Wa-wa…” and according to the old folks, there will be rain when babies do “Wa-wa” and she’s probably the reason why we have rainy weather here. :p

Here’s another video that shows how anal Amanda is when it comes to her xylophone stick.
She HAS to turn and hold them CORRECTLY!!!
Noone told her the right way to hold the sticks… but I guess she figured that it would sound better if held and used correctly.

Her turning the stick and holding it correctly aside, from the video, you may too learn a thing or two or three about Amanda!

1) Amanda has quite a temper.

She was quite pissed off when we took her stick away right before the video.
Amanda would let out a short loud angry “Hmmph“, when she doesn’t get what she wants or when the overly-affectionate little 哥哥s (brothers) gets too close for comfort. They like to carry, hug or rub her cheeks with their sometimes muddy hand.

IMG_3678
Mummy… … I think Chang Kor Kor is getting too close.

IMG_3677
Eeeks! Don’t touch me!

Amanda would not hesitate to slap or push anyone away if she doesn’t like them.

And when Chang Kor Kor, played and snatched her toys.
She screamed! Pushes him away, pulled his ears and tugged his t-shirt with all her might.
Of course, she doesn’t have the strength to deter him from snatching her toys NOW. But one day… she might just succeed.

I was secretly pleased. Hee! At least she wouldn’t be bullied at the kindergarten here.

2) Amanda found her voice… again!

She found her ability to scream… as demonstrated somewhere in the middle of the video.
Many months ago, I blogged about how Amanda found her voice and loves to squeal.
Now other than blabbering “ba ba” and making all sort of cute little noises… She loves to SCREAM!
Loud piercing scream!
When she’s excited, bored, out of the blue while playing and sometimes at inappropriate times, like we were dining in a restaurant in Beijing.
We were pretty embarrassed by the stares we got. But soon got used to it by the next meal.
Its beyond our control and I have been very careful not to be too amused by her screaming. In case, she thinks it funny and uses it to attract our and others attention.

3) Amanda loves crawl under the chair / jumperoo and plays in the tiniest places.

She gets a lot of fun tugging the curtain under the jumperoo.

Crawled and played with the curtains under her jumperoo.
Party at my jumperoo. Join me!

And here are some of the pictures from our trip to Beijing over the weekend.

IMG_3719
Just landed in Beijing.

For the first time, Amanda drank from her drinking cup on her own.

IMG_3723
I’m so thirsty from all the screaming!

The Dongs.
The Dongs.

With her 姑妈 (SIL), who clearly adores Amanda! But its also very clear that Amanda is afraid of her.
They do not meet often. And to Amanda, she is a stranger.
She is very wary and careful whenever her Auntie is around and near her!

IMG_3727

What made this trip FUN was that we stayed at the hotel instead of our apartment.
And Amanda had lots of fun in the hotel’s pool!

IMG_3755
Playing in the room.

Family photo by the pool.
Family (blur) photo at the pool!
We do have clear photos of us at the pool. But I look FAT! :p

At “The Place”.
Amanda had lots of fun looking at all the older kids playing and running about.
I kept telling Dp how deprived kids are in Yuncheng. :(

IMG_3794
Daddy! Its sooo fun here!

Amanda with Auntie DN!
By the 3rd day, Amanda lets her guard down.

I am getting used to traveling with Amanda. I do think that her taking the formula makes life a little easier.
I find it easier to pack Hot water in a vacuum flask, bottles and milk powder Than to find a place where I can nurse discreetly.
Yes. The bottle sterilization can be quite a chore when you do not have the right tools when traveling.

Still. I would love traveling with Amanda if I could ditch my frumpy style.
When I told Dp the numbers of Chanels and Birkins I saw during this trip.
I frowned with Amanda’s diaper bag in my arm when he looked and asked Where’s yours?.
Maybe its the holiday mood, but he sorta promised me a birkin… hee!

WE ARE ALL SO LOOKING FORWARD TO OUR NEXT HOLIDAY END OF THE MONTH!

Gonna meet Grandpa Albert, Grandma Alice and Auntie Ashley in Macau.
(Amanda’s Note to Grandpa, Grandma and Auntie: I can’t guarantee I would be in my best behavior then!)
(Judebabe’s Note to Dad: PLEASE LET ME SHOP! I AM DEPRIVED!)

THAT’S ALL FOR NOW FOLKS!
TILL MUMMY HAS TIME FOR MORE UPDATES!

Dp taught me a new phrase today.
瑞雪兆丰年…
Today’s heavy snowfall was very unexpected.
It came almost a month earlier than usual.

The snow came early., originally uploaded by judebabe.

Fortunately, I found an old jacket in the apartment but it was no surprise that I couldn’t zip it up!

The best bit about this snow, we delayed our return flight home to tomorrow evening.
And the road traffic that morning was surprisingly smooth!
One more day in Beijing. One more day at the malls.

Its my favorite month, November!
I love to be overly-indulgent in November!

We have pretty fixed itinerary whenever we are in the Beijing.
Places to eat and places to shop.

When we were supposed to go 2 weekends before, we talked about the places we were to go again…
I almost missed adding a new spot. H&M!

Then, nights before this trip. I had a dream… a friend, her baby and I visited the H&M store.
We had fun shopping… though we were somehow shopping stuffs for Home.

Wierd! But I guess this is how my mind works. Subconsciously reminding me.
I digress a little… but I once read about Sprouse LV Collection launch, months before the actual date.
And guess what? Few days before the launch I had a dream about holding one of the bags when I forgotten totally about it.

Anyway, that morning, i couldn’t wait! Shook and woke Dp up, telling him about my H&M dream.
He asked why do I insist in going, since there’s probably nothing for me to buy.
I wondered too, but told him that we have been to every H&M in every city we visited, since 2002.
Why not Beijing? Besides, I am capable of buying anything in sight.

And so last Saturday, we were off to Qianmen after an early lunch at Lau Pat Sat and shopping at The Place.
I was up very early that morning! I couldn’t wait to get out of the house to start eating and shopping.

Years ago, we used to go Qianmen a lot whenever Dp’s dad is in town.
He believes that Qianmen has the most authentic Quan Ju De’s peking duck
Then, the road was cramped and dirty.
Most migrant workers would ‘hang around’ there when they first step foot in the Capital looking for jobs.

Good news! The street is now rebuilt, revamped and transformed into pedestrian-only street.
Bad news! We had to park far from the street and walk to H&M in the heat!

Us @ Qianmen.
Us @ Qianmen. Feeling happy in the heat…still.
Small image size because my face is big enough! :-p

Qianmen.
It was bustling with tourists at the main section of the street, but I somehow took pic of the quiet part!

H&M.
H&M.
Zara & Uniqlo will too open on the same street.

I [heart] animal prints!
Hair accessories! I <3 animal prints!!!

I managed to get myself maternity wear, hair accessories, a set of clothes of Baby Chang and resisted buying cute baby wear for lil’ judebabe.
But I did get her a pink headband.

Shopping... ...
Our shopping for the day.
In the picture, Dp’s Croc shopping bag. He loves Crocs too!

We then headed to Dp’s favourite place, for Xinjiang food!!!

DP and his fave, BBQ Lamb!
Dp is very happy with his BBQ lamb. Check out the wooden skewers~!
And he totally deserves to eat the greasy fatty meat for being so patient with my shopping!

After the greasy dinner, we went to Solana for more shopping and Transformer 2.
You know you are really deprived of shopping when you are happy about shopping in Muji and Lock & Lock food storage containers!!!

At 80yuan per ticket, movies cost 4 times more than in Yuncheng but at least we got to watch it in English version.
One thing however remains the same with Yuncheng, it was just as hot and stuffy in the cinema in Beijing.
And surprisingly, Yuncheng has better pop corns!

Its definitely much cheaper and better experience to watch movie in Singapore even during peak timings.

The next day was less fun! As I didn’t have much to buy.
But still managed to get myself a pair swarovski earrings and slippers.
I needed to justify that day’s shopping with something.

So what was it like walking all day on my feet with a 75kg burden?
(75kg!!!??? Shocking!? Guess what, I’ll probably pile on another 5kg before birth!)
I never had a chance to walk this much in a day, in Yuncheng.
I was out for a total of 12 hours on Saturday.
I needed to nap in Yuncheng, but that afternoon, I didn’t feel tired at all.
Even though I slept really late the night before and was up early.
SIL couldn’t quite catch up with my energy level that day.

On the second day, I was still feeling pretty good in the morning but was soon feeling pretty drained by 3pm.
I don’t know if its my body, the heat, the day’s uneventful shopping or the top I was wearing day that made me look really really fat instead of pregnant…
I was feeling tired and my self-esteem was really low that day.

At 6pm, I was WADDLING to the boarding gate.
Despite being big, people have been telling me that I am still walking pretty normally.
So maybe I only waddle when I am tired and when my feet and thick thighs couldn’t support my weight.

AND I must be very big and looked like I am about to POP… as the air stewardess seemed genuinely frightened concerned when I boarded the plane in Yuncheng.
I lied to her that I was only 6 months pregnant… when in fact, I am closing to 8.
I don’t know why I lied but I wanted to make sure I get to Beijing!

Anyway, there won’t be a next time, no more trips and plane rides for me till Iil’ judebabe arrives.

*Thought I better post this before I get busy with Mommy and Ashley when they are here.

Dp and I have been spending our last 2 weekends in… our New Home! :-p
(Oh yes! How I wished we spent our weekend in somewhere Glamourous.)

Dp loved it here.
He said its quiet here.
(Except from the knocking from the renovation works around us… which starts at 7a.m and ends when we are awake.)
Away from all the same people we see everyday at the company and the estate.
The best bit-He gets to choose and watch soccer matches from various sports channels on our satellite cable.

He loves (no! HE LOVES!) the satellite cable.
Took him months since 2008, to finally make it right this year.
There was one time when the satellite cable lost its signal while I was fixing our speaker’s cable.
It wasn’t my fault but the damn cable just happened to lose the damn signal just when I was fixing the damn speaker.

And IF Dp’s stare could kill… I would have died. No joke.

Here are the pictures from the weekends.

The beams and loft in our Living room.
Our favorite. The loft. And the ceiling light.

The Sunset and the Lake.
The Sunset and the Lake.
From our window.
The view will only get better with summer comes and when the young trees and plants grow.

We planning for a BBQ session in mid-April. When the weather is warm enough.
Going to have feast by the lake.
I am keeping my fingers crossed.
That the mosquitoes and flies are not out to feast too.

The Food. I cooked. I am warming-up to the many years of hiatus.
I am getting adventurous. Can’t wait for the ingredients I got from online to arrive.

Full English Breakfast.
Substituted the sausages with luncheon meat.
The sausages here in Yuncheng isn’t hearty / sinful enough.

My 1st fried egg curse.
It usually take me the second time, to get it right each time.
So if I want 2 perfect fried eggs.
I need to fry 3 eggs. Its like a curse or something.

Mee Siam.
Mee Siam. Paste from Singapore.
For the home-sick me. For the Singapore-food-sick Dp.
Didn’t soaked the rice vermicelli long enough. It wasn’t soft enough.
We had indigestion that night.

Failed attempt in Fried Bee Hoon
Failed attempt in Fried Bee Hoon. OUR favorite breakfast in Singapore.
My Mom would buy us that every morning when we are back home.
I had it almost every morning for 3 weeks.
And in light of the indigestion the night before. I over-soaked the rice vermicelli this time.
Too soggy. But at least, I got the taste right.

Something to go along with our Bee Hoon.
Something to go along with our Fried Bee Hoon.
Luncheon Meat again. Leftovers from English breakfast. :-&
We ate a lot eggs too that weekend.

Oyster Sauce Chicken.
The very first dish I learned to cook… when I was 14.
It was for my Home Economics test then.
My teacher loved it. I could remember that surprised look from her face.
Well, it was very tasty coz Mom marinated it the day before.

Delicious homecook and boiled soup is coming my way.
Will be picking Mom and Ashley from the Yuncheng airport tonight.

Dp will be talking to the renovation workers.
Hope that they start knocking at 8 a.m., earliest.
So that Mom and Ashley can sleep in later.

EXCITED. :-)

With all the moving around for the past 2 years, it did Hit me recently, on a sleepless night, that dp & I, We don’t really have a Home.
Though Dp has like 2 apartments in Beijing, we are currently collecting rent for one, and dust for the other.

And even when we spend most of our time in Yuncheng (as Base) its hardly our home, coz mostly we spend our time only in our room.
We have our own entertainment, Tv, cable and dvd, in our room. So ‘home’ is pretty limited in one bedroom.

So Dp and I pretty agreed that we have to make the Best out of the New Home!

Sometimes, the best part about returning to Beijing, is to visit and sleep in our Beijing apartment.
Nothing great about it but well, that’s the first home we put together or at least tried to, but didnt get to stay long enough.

So here, a quick tour of the apartment. The one that is collecting dust and we refused to let it out.
Had to take most of the pictures Immediately upon entering the apartment, before Dp and I start MESSING IT UP!!!

The house seemed pretty empty and do not lived-in feel, because its mostly empty!
Except when Dp’s relatives are in Beijing, they will stay at our house.

With the dark wooden floors that came with the apartment, we only have to go with the Oriental / Zen Theme.
And I am so loving the almost-white sofa!

Living RoomLiving Room by the day
The living room, by day and night.
We get a lot of sunshine on most of the days (except for this day), Dp loves to lie on the sofa and bask in the sun!

Living Roombed

The living room still… and half of the master bedroom!

Dining AreaKitchen

Kitchen and Dining Area!

Oriental LightingsStudy + PC Room

Lightings in living room and PC Room (with Sofa Bed)

Oriental Lightingsmasterbedroom

More oriental lights and cupboard in the master-bedroom with lots of little stuff on it.

That’s all for the house, except that I missed out the guest room and maybe half of the master bedroom.
Very simple huh?
We wanted to move in really quick then.

I think if we are going to stay in the house for long enough, its definitely going to be filled with a lot more stuff (rubbish).
To make it warm and cozy!

But For now, its good enough for the short stay!
