Her Baby

Amanda loves to dance.

in Her Baby,Her Life

I may have mentioned one too many times, about how much Amanda loves to perform and dance.

In the day, she dances whenever she hears music.
In the evening, she dances to neighbors in our estate.
And when she goes to latin dance classes with me, she does her best in moving her hips and arms along with everyone in the room.

About 2-3 months ago, her favorite line was, 我要跳舞, I want to dance.
Its her way of asking you to put on a song on the iPhone for her to dance.
I used to put on a few dance hits… till I found her favorite, Poker face.

In this video, she was dancing to the weekly part-time helpers.

She listens and dances very often to it, so much that I think she sort of choreographed a dance to the music.
She seemed to be thinking of steps to dance along to the music.

I was too occupied for the last 2 months. That I neglected this blog.
That I almost forgot about this video… and hopefully not forget, this very cute phase of Amanda’s.
I am reminded of it, when I came across some really videos of toddlers doing their ABCs, Numbers and dancing.
(I was downloading videos for Amanda to load onto iPad, hopefully to keep her occupied when we are out and on the plane.)

She still loves to dance, but these days she is more occupied with her bicycles and scooter at home.

Amanda, Don’t grow up too fast.
Mama needs time to catch up on this blog.

Errm… No?

Mama is too occupied these days, and I think we may be able to find more time to play and snuggle (whenever you want to), when we return to Singapore in another week or so.

Meanwhile, I really need to catch up.

I love how birthdays fall on the weekend. For Amanda, its falls on Sunday, this year.
Its was a whole weekend of fun and activities.

Seeing how everyone enjoyed Amanda’s One-year-old party
I was encouraged to throw another party this year, an occasion to gather the friends and kids and to have fun!

This year, Amanda chose the Hello Kitty theme, its pink enough, and I am reserving other characters, Dora or Minnie, or Barney, for her future birthdays.
Even with the help of the event planner, who did the setup, I was also feeling stressed about the shopping of party favors and games for the kids.

The day before, Amanda was really excited about the much bigger version of herself.
The very cooperative Amanda posed for me in front of the massive poster.

We were out Saturday morning, for some final shopping for the party.
We had her favorite fries, fried chicken and chocolate sundae for lunch.
Amanda sits very still in her chair and finishes her wings / drumsticks, every time.

Yum Yum!

The little girl prefers wearing her hair up in tiny buns these days.
And had these cute little curls, when we undo her little buns for her afternoon nap.

Cute hair. Cute foot.

It was tiring running after and dressing a well-rested toddler.
We almost have to pin her to the wall, just for this shot before getting out.

Our Lil’ judebabe is TWO.

When I knew that I was pregnant with Lil’ judebabe, I want to raise a confident girl, girlie and yet, daring.
She is very sociable and is comfortable around people. And very quickly, with strangers.
Play her favorite track and she will dance for everyone in room.

Put her in a dress, and she will dance and twirl around the room in it.
Put her in the playground, she climbs up in agile movements, and goes down the slide on her belly.

She would be playing with her dolls and kitchen sets this minute but gets on her tricycle or scoots around the house on her scooter next.

She is well-liked, and readily greets Daddy’s n Mummy’s friends and everyone in our estate.
She sometimes surprises people and me, because she greets them loudly and even before I had the chance to ask her too.
And her “Byes Byes”…, well, she won’t stop till you acknowledged her.
I guess I started early, even when she was a young baby, I would carry her around the room, greeting people.
And say our Byes, when we leave.

I know it’s too early to tell, and kids become shy when they grow older, but at two years old, I am glad that she is close to what i hoped for her to be.

Time for Birthday Cake!

Amanda could sing the Birthday Song in both English and Mandarin, and knew it was her birthday, but she didn’t sing or clapped along, like I expected her to.
She must have been overwhelmed with the number of people at her party, with about 60 in the room, and with the rest waiting outside for the BBQ dinner to officially start.
In total, we had more than 120 guests.

Things then start going out of control, a 3 year old blew out the candles on the cake (the only thing I was upset about), I expected the cake to come with a cake knife, but it didn’t and the “Hello Kitty” on the cake turned out distorted, and also it started to rain on and off.

Normally the control-freak-me, would have gotten upset, but the atmosphere was so great, that the party guest didn’t mind moving the tables in and out, and there were enough cakes, sweets, party favors, games, activities for the kids, and the adults loved the food and there were lots of booze for them.

Even though it was supposedly to be a party for family with kids,
But we live in community made up of staff of the company that Amanda’s Grandpa built, Everyone, young and old in our estate came. Even though, we didn’t formally invite some of them…
Which was perfectly fine with us, since the party wasn’t just for Amanda and the kids, we wanted it to be for everyone we know!
And judging from the many empty bottles of Chinese rice wine, I think the long-times comrades of Amanda’s Grandpa, had just as much fun as their grandchildren.

Pinata Frenzy

And the highlight… Everyone’s first time with Pinata.

Pinata Frenzy

Pinata Frenzy

At first, the kids didn’t know what to expect but after they heard that there were lollipops, sweets, and small toys in the pinata, the bigger boys (they secretly channeled the power of their favorite heroes) used their might to hit and break the pinata.

Either the quality of the pinata was too good, or it was filled with too much goodies, that made it difficult to break.
With the little damage, we decided to rip open the pinata for the very eager kids.

Pinata Frenzy

When the content fell out of the pinata, the frenzy began, kids were screaming and picking up sweets and toys on the floor.

Pinata Frenzy

After the pinata frenzy, there were clay dolls for kids to paint and calm down.

Amanda wasn’t interested in the clay dolls, took pictures with some of her party guests –

Selina, the other very popular baby girl of the night.

It would have been a perfect night under the Stars / LEDs…
If it didn’t rain…or if the electric power didn’t go out…

DSC00663

What a party!!!

I think we were pretty lucky that the power went off, at 9 plus, it was time for the kids to return home too!
I was glad that the handy reading lights and other flashing toys came in handy.

When the lights came on, those who stayed, had another round of BBQ food.
I didn’t eat till most of the guest left, I was too busy with the activities and chatting with friends.
We requested the mobile BBQ stall to stay till late… we were lucky that they prepared a lot more than we told them to.
As the turn out was much more than we expected.

That night, we returned home late, and I couldn’t sleep.
My legs were tired. And Amanda was sleeping with the nanny in her room.
It wasn’t till 5a.m., when Amanda woke up wanting to look for us, and it was then, I was only able to sleep with her in our bed.

On Amanda’s birthday, the next day, we had lunch with Family. Amanda’s GrandParents, Grand Uncles and Grand Aunties.

DSC00686

DSC00678DSC00675DSC00677DSC00682

And in the evening, we brought her to the newly-opened indoor playground. With few of her favourite 哥哥s.
With her recent bout of skin infection, I have been hesitant in bringing her to the playground.
I decided it would be a treat for her if I just relax.

DSC00693

She had so much fun that day, that I brought her to the playground again with Helios 哥哥.

The new indoor playground, has a fun slides, sand pitch and a pool for kids to fish.
I pity the poor fishes, who are subjected to the severe mishandling of the kids.

Amanda turns 2.

September 3, 2011

in Her Baby,Her Life

I'm Two! Peace!
I’m TWO! *Peace*

Amanda turns terrific 2 this weekend!

She was delighted to see a massive poster of herself, and said “Big QiQi“, where event planners were setting up the place.
She happily stood still and posed for me to take pictures.
Its increasingly difficult for us to take clear pictures of her face. That I sometimes take videos instead.

Last week, at Amanda’s playgroup, I had a taste of what its going to be like with a 2 year old toddler.
She kept running out of the classroom.
If I were in the classroom, she would be looking for the nanny, if the nanny is with her, she would be looking for me.
And if I let her out, and not chase after her, she ran to the playroom when the slides are.
Arrgh! Wish me luck and lots of patience.

Anyway, we engaged the help of event planners this year.
We didn’t have enough tables and chairs for our guest last year.
And also after a tiring attempt of setting up the place and failed attempt of filling the balloon with helium gases, I decided some things are better left for the professionals.

Today, Amanda saw the truck pulling her Hello Kitty party balloons on the road.
She covered her mouth, gasped and squealed.
She didn’t know that they were hers… yet!!!

With girlie pink gifts coming in, I expect her to be really excited when we bring to her party venue later!

You think Daddy and Mummy will let me drive in another… 16 years?

We are celebrating a day earlier. So that adults and kids can stay out later!

Oops!

Oops!, originally uploaded by judebabe.

It’s been a long time since my last post.
Been really busy. Well, Sort of.

- We were in Beijing for Dp’s high school’s reunion in mid-August.
And for us, those were the hottest days this summer.

- Nanny couldn’t take the heat and fell sick during our trip, at her home in the village (the real one). She couldn’t come and wanted to be home and rest. Guess she is very much used to the comfort of air-conditioned environment here.

- Amanda wanted me to carry her, because its too hot to walk under the hot sun. I had to carry her in one arm, with a bag of fruits and her backpack of toys in another. She loves bring along her box of markers to draw at her GrandUncle’s place.

- When the nanny returned, I was hooked to shopping. Online and offline.

- I am loving the current flare and ‘flatform’ trend for the fall and winter.
The flare pants and jeans is flattering to the thighs and the ‘flatform’ adds heights without the discomfort of heels.

- I am out the service of HopShopGo, been busy browsing online at US sites and shopping.

- IT bags? I am now shopping for the IT diaper bags!
An appropriately-sized bag I always wish I have whenever the nanny isn’t around.
Something I could dump her bottles and used bowls and cutlery in without worrying about leaks and stains.

- Buying and Preparing for Amanda’s 2nd birthday party.
Making up for the fun, she missed last year.
I think everyone else had fun last year.
This year is about Pink and hello kitty for 70 guests in our estate.
Lots of party favor for the kids. Little toys online are cheap.

- We are adding another room above our roof.
Work started yesterday, and I am excited about doing up the room and the extra space.
We need the extra space for leisure, (think mahjong with friends) and for many stuffs we have.
Been wanting to de-clutter.
The thumping on the roof however, wakes us up early.

Coz of all the above, I have only been sleeping for 5 hours for the last few nights.

*yawns*

Hope to blog more real soon!

My Girl, Amanda.

August 10, 2011

in Her Baby,Her Life

I have not use the term, Girly, to describe Amanda, until recently.
Especially with her increasingly fondness of everything Pink and Red.
Its also a lot of fun shopping for Amanda.

Closer to becoming 2 years old, its also time for a change of toys.
I have recently put away her old toys to make room for new ones.
I have not been buying her toys for a while, at this stage, toys are no longer about developing fine motor skills but more of play-pretending.
I did get her a pair of learning chopsticks though, which she learning to pick up small items rather than food on the table.

I never want to over-indulge her with toys or drown her creativity, but through toys, its a fun way to learn.
Most of her toys are bought over the internet, she thinks that toys are bought by punching the keyboard on our notebook and if she ever request for toys at the supermarket, she would put them down after I told her that she already has one at home, which she accepts and nods with agreement, for now.

I started with a tea set when we were in Singapore, she loved it.
After pouring us coffee, tea (or whatever we request), she would come again with sugar and cream.
She too love cutting fruits (again, and again) put together with velcro in between.

Then when I saw playing with her cousin’s mini kitchen set, I knew it was time.
I have been wanting to get her a kitchen set, the minute I laid my eyes on this, but due to logistic problem, i.e, bulging excessive luggage, lazy carrier DP, I wasn’t able to lug this back from Singapore.
Nanny and I too enjoy flipping through their catalogue.

Then I searched online for days for a decent quality set that will last her till we lay our hands on the kitchen set from Singapore.
Or maybe when she’s 3.
I decided on a table top set. Other than pots, pans and cutlery, it comes complete with a sink, fried eggs and sausages.

DSC00293
70pcs. All for 128rmb.

I felt there was far toooo many pieces and I wouldn’t want to step on and break a piece, but I really wanted a sink.
It was a good decision made, because she loved ‘washing up’, while I kept the extra pieces in the boxes.
She didn’t care much about the forks and plates, and prefers slurping from the ladle and pots.

Next day, a friend dropped by with another kitchen set.

DSC00309
Yeah! A set in pink!

DSC00365

The set was low in height and Amanda didn’t mind playing with it on her knees.
We placed it near our kitchen, and she would sometimes play with it while the nanny is preparing our meals in the kitchen.
With the wall stickers, its now her happy cooking corner.

DSC00343
我要去超市!

A few days later, Amanda had her girlie-est moment ever, decked in her floral dress, slippers, necklaces, bracelets and ring (she puts her accessories on, herself), and her handbag, Bye bye!我要去超市, I want to go to the supermarket, she said.
I quickly stuffed Elmo into her trolley, asking her to bring him along.

DSC00344

She pushes her pink trolley to the door, where she pretends to be picking up items.
She then ‘returns’ home, runs up to me with 大青蛙,she picked from the supermarket.
She remembers them being sold at the supermarket.
After several trips, she ran to her drawers and picked out her tights, wore them with some help, and plonked herself on the nanny’s bed.
Sometimes, she enjoys wearing her wellies at home.

Later I went to pick up another parcel, and returned with a Mell Chan doll. I wasn’t sure if she’s going to like it.
After all, she didn’t like the soft toys I got for her, and she wasn’t attached to anything other than my hand.

The new doll kept her very busy for the next hour. And she started playing with the Sleepy Dora, I got a few months ago.

DSC00385
Amanda’s doll.

I like how the Mell Chan is appropriately sized for babies 18 months and above, and she has the same hair style as Amanda.
I have not tried, but the doll can join Amanda in the bath tub too.

She fed, bathe, applied cream, combed their hair repeatedly.
She names her new doll, Baby (with a Singapore accent :p) and sang the same line 一闪一闪亮晶晶满天都是小星星 while rocking the new doll.
Something the nanny does when trying to get her to sleep.
I tried convincing her to name her baby with interesting names, but the only name I can come with for a doll is Apple.
Of course, she wasn’t convinced and gosh! I am so bad with names.

She even read them her favorite bed time story, which she already memorized every line of it.

DSC00358
小猴皮皮是个贪玩的小淘气,天黑了他还不想回家睡觉… …

She imitates how we mix and shake her milk bottle, or unscrew the cap to let out trapped air, before feeding her baby.
At lunch, Baby sat next to her in her high chair, where she tried feeding her, her noodles and pats and checked on Baby occasionally, making sure she’s feeling Ok.
And at the end of the story, she bends forward to gently kiss them, sweet and just like her Mama.

DSC00357

It so interesting to watch run Amanda around hurriedly, pretending to take care of her baby, and how her actions reflect ours.

She then ran to her toy box, to pick out her broom, another of her favorite play-pretend toy, and started sweeping the floor, while singing and carrying her baby.

DSC00363

I am not sure if the nanny or I ever did swept the floor with her in our arms.
But I am sure she’s going to be a great Mum… When she stops grabbing them by their hair or dropping Baby or Dora on their heads.

Her interest for her Baby, were on and off for the last few weeks, but I guess that’s how toddlers are.
She doesn’t bring Baby to bed.

DSC00372
Dora can fit in Baby’s crib too.

When the Baby’s crib and new outfit arrived today, it renewed her interest, though she did expect the crib to come with a new doll, shown on the packaging.

Here’s a video of the very busy Baby. The very busy Real Baby.

I am considering bringing the doll along to Beijing, when we go for Dp’s high school reunion at a resort in the suburbs.
It would be a good time for the four of us to bond.

Favorite food of the moment., originally uploaded by judebabe.

Amanda loves meat.
These days, she particularly likes chicken wings.

Here she is having a chicken wing at KFC at 10pm in her messy hairdo.
She didn’t make a fuss but we could tell she was upset when she dropped her last piece of chicken before this photo was taken.
She’s lucky to have pampering Uncles and Aunties to get more for her.

It all started when she had roast duck in Singapore shortly after turning 1,
Then she loves the braised beef sold in the market here.
And last month, when she saw me eating tandoori chicken drumstick in a Indian restaurant in Beijing… She’s demanded that I give her mine!
She finished every bit of the meat was chewing on the bone till I gave her another.

To her, it’s probably more fun to eat with her hands or bone, rather than from a fork or spoon.

If we even mention the word 肉 meat in our conversation during meal time, she would insist in having some when there isn’t any on our table.

Millet porridge is her like comfort food.
Like milk, whether she has appetite or not, she always has room in her tummy for them.

She too has preference for bread and instant noodles :p
Her favorite fruits right now would be Durian and Mango.
She finds canned peach sour.
And I don’t remember the last time she had eggs.

Kids start young here with sweets and flavored sweetened drinks, other than ‘gummi bears’ and some durian sweets, she never had any sweets.
You have no idea, the weird looks I get, when I used ‘screamed’ Don’t give them to her!, across the room to stop relatives from giving her sweets / lollipop / mandarin oranges.
Amanda thinks lollipop are pellets for her xylophone toys.

When DP accidentally gave her some Pepsi once, she shivered and didn’t like the bubbly feeling in her mouth.
In my effort to get her to drink more fluid, I gave her Ribena and fresh apple juice, she found them toooo sour.
I avoid orange and orange juice, because Dad told me it makes me cough, a lot, when I was a kid.

To justify having more of Daddy’s ice cream, Amanda told us that she’s feeling hot with a frown.
She’s too cute not to give her more.

According to the nanny, Amanda behaves well, is cooperative and has good appetite whenever we are not home.
DP and I are considering eating out often for her sake.
