– About the Blog –
My blog started out as a peek into my life in CHINA, I moved into this big country in the name of LOVE, and embrace(d) the many challenges and cultures from language, people, harsh weather and the horrendous road traffic and conditions here.
My Family and friends read to find out what’s going on in my life. And I think they all love me it very much.
And I hope you better too.
You can find my very first blog entry: here!
But, with the arrival of our Baby in September 2009, known as Lil’ judebabe during my Pregnancy, and we named Amanda, she not only fill our lives, but my blog with lots of joy and photos. :p
– About Me –
- Why am I in China?
I decided to move to China in September 2004 after Daddy nodded his head.
And I think I am probably going be stuck here for the rest of my life.
All because and Thanks to “that someone”, a Chinese National with the initial, DP.
I met DP during my studies at Salford University, Manchester, UK, he convinced me the pasture is greener here.
To get back at him for having me stuck here in China, I abuse him physically, verbally and emotionally daily occasionally, but I seriously think he loves it.
We married on a lovely day on 1st June 2006.
You can read all about our wedding under the catergory, Her Wedding.
The plan now is that we’ll stay in China, till Amanda starts her Primary education in Singapore. I think.
We may need some adjusting then.
- Where to find me in China?
I lived and worked in Beijing for a year and 4 month.
I was earning ‘okay’ after my graduation, working in Singapore, but the pay in Beijing was miserable.
Still, it was memorable experience meeting people and learning new culture, I sometimes travel west to east, in Beijing, hee!, for errands. A good way to explore.
We decided that the stress of having to fight the traffic and reporting for work on time is too much.
That’s when DP decided for us, that we should both quit and move to rural China, his hometown, Yuncheng in Shanxi Province.
Here’s post about my exact location in China.
In Yuncheng, there is no decent shopping malls and decent fashion but with less pollution, not so harsh weather and non-existent-pace of life.
Its definitely not my choice of city and lifestyle, but it is never easy to find a balance.
However, after 5 years in Yuncheng, I have also learned to find peace in living here.
Seriously, it can be very quiet and stress-free here.
- What is life like in rural China? And shopping?
I was earning even lesser than what I earned in Beijing and is constantly struggling to maintain a healthy weight.
With Amanda, I stopped working in Yuncheng, and is still struggling to lose weight.
There isn’t much to do in rural places, and getting lost in villages and among the crops of wheat and cotton isn’t exactly fun.
So I prefer to stay in, but if I have to get out I will try not to spend too much in the overpriced malls.
Think Limited choices. Zero competition. High prices.
And I am not exactly proud to share that most of the shop assistants here know me affectionately by my first name.
I sometimes love to go to the supermarket.
Unlike fashion here, they have a decent selection of food and household products.
When I can’t find anything in Yuncheng, I turn to the most visited site on my laptop, Taobao.com.
They seriously have almost everything.
Amanda and Taobao.com are what keep me busy and not updating this blog as regularly as I would.
BUT Nothing can come in between a girl and her shopping!!!
I am a beauty-junk, who loves loves her bags and shoes!!!
I have a soft spot for anything pink, which works well with my girl, Amanda.
With her, I don’t stop shopping for myself, I SHOP EVEN MORE!
Its more shopping for the both of us!
At least she doesn’t have to buy the ever-price-increasing classic Chanel Flaps.
Every now and then, when I am sick of the limited choice of food and shopping here, we will go to Beijing for the weekend, to remember what it is like to live in a city.
I would stay in Singapore with Amanda for at least month, twice a year.
With too much shopping, you can sometimes find me rampaging through my stuff in my walk-in wardrobe.
I am guilty of having too many clothes, but I can never find the clothes to wear when I want to.
Find my post on shopping under the category:Her Shopping.
- Who am I and what I really enjoy? -
I have the many traits (both good and dark) of a Scorpio and those of born in the year of Monkey
I am also the girl, who enjoys movies, channel flipping on TV, cheesy POPs, jogging, Brit novels, magazines, horoscopes, fengshui and shamelessly LOVES celebs gossips…
I stalk celebrities shamelessly at POPSUGAR!
I have a shallow obsession with bags and is a member of The Purse Forum!
I can get really cranky if I don’t get my daily fix, of caffeine, that is.
A cuppa in the morning can kick-starts my day and a cuppa in the day unnerves me.
I love traveling… (who doesn’t?) we have travelled quite a bit before Amanda came a long,
We now bring her a long whenever possible. Usually domestic and Singapore.
Amanda is quite traveller, taking her first plane to her most visited city, Beijing, at just 50 days old.
We visit Beijing, every other month. Coz Mummy needs to get out of the village.
- What else is interesting about me?
I write and eat with my left hand.
I have been told (by many Chinese here) that left-handed people are smarter.
Of course that isn’t true!
On the contrary, I think I am stupid because I can’t write with my right hand like what MOST people do.
I am often asked to perform writing with my left hand to my colleagues in China.
They do find it very entertaining, and impressive.
They think I write from right to left.
Almost 8 years in China, and communicating only with Chinese most of the time, my mandarin accent changed.
The locals could guess I am not from Yuncheng, but couldn’t quite pin-point which part of China, I am from.
And in Singapore, the locals think I am from… China.
You can take the girl out of Singapore but not the ‘Singapore’ out the girl.
And likewise, you can take Village boy out of the country(side) but not the ‘Village’ out of the boy!
Hence, we are living in the VILLAGE!
This is one of the outlet besides DP, I vent my frustration and bitch sometimes.
I sometimes harbor so much evil thoughts, that I feel guilty.
I bitch more in life. I think.
I complain too much about myself. (especially on my bulging tummy, thick thighs and non-existent muscles)
(This is all behind me now, with Amanda, I hardly have time to think my tummy or bitch.
I am content with life, though I really need to find time to work on my post-pregnancy weight.
