October 2011

Our first stop – Switzerland, originally uploaded by judebabe.

It’s cool that we revisited some places that we thought we never will.

And the view is absolutely breathe-taking. Quite Literally.

I found myself giddy and with aloud thumping heart indoor at high altitude.

Lots of walking and train rides.

Will be moving on next to Germany.

I miss my babe!

in Her Life

I miss my babe!, originally uploaded by judebabe.

DP would listen intently when I have interesting news to share about Amanda.

Mum and Ashley would ‘report’ on Amanda, when I call home.
Ashley took leave from work to help out this week. And would send me pictures of Amanda.

The above is her eating my favorite, chicken rice.

She is apparently ‘ok’ in the day, but sometimes cries herself to sleep, looking for me.
She wants to take plane and to probably look for us.
I haven’t have the courage to do FaceTime with her.
In case, she cries and break my heart.

Hang on babe, and Grandma Alice!

We are finally leaving for our trip tomorrow. 12 days in Europe!
We waited long enough and it’s finally happening.

The little one is adjusting well in Singapore so far.
Though she does sometimes ask to return to Mama’s home (i.e. home in Yuncheng) and asks for Daddy too.

Watching Barbie’s Diamond Castle (in mandarin) with Baby.

While she enjoys the company of her Yee-ma Ashley and Kao-fu Andrew, (she’s obessesed with him, for now.), she would however calls out for me and made sure I am around, to feel secured.
I guess its because I was out for almost a day on Monday, for facial and dinner. She was afraid I sneak off without her.

Opps! She’s right. I am. Tomorrow.
Dp and I are going away for a trip to Europe next week. We are traveling with relatives to visit his cousin who is schooling in Netherlands, and will be leaving Amanda in the care of her very-willingGrandpareants, Auntie and Uncle.

Excited? Nah!
When Dp told me about the itinerary, Whatever!, his words seems to turn blah blah blah, and I begin to wonder how is Amanda going to cope without me!
I was also reminded of that sleepless night I had, when Amanda wasn’t sleeping in the same room as us on her 2nd birthday.
She was just in the next room with the nanny. I am so used having her sleeping in the same room.

At the same time, I do think we really need to make this trip, I don’t know when our next trip would be!
The last time I was away from her, was a short trip to Macau last year and a night in Beijing, last month.

Like my friend said, its usually just the Mummy who can’t live without her child.
I hope she’s right.

Anyway, I have prepping Amanda on what’s about to come.
She gave me the idea, when she asked her Daddy to come to Singapore.
I then told her that I needed to go take a flight to bring Daddy to Singapore.
爸爸自己不会’去’新加坡!She helpfully pointed out.
I told her to wait for us in Singapore with Gong Gong, Por Por, Yee-ma and Kao-fu.
And if she needs to sleep, she should go find Por Por.
Sometimes she agreed. Because she misses Daddy!
Sometimes, she would hold back her tears and says she doesn’t want me to go.
And tonight, she said she take the plane to go find Daddy.

I also like to add what a chatterbox she has become these days.
Not so much of a pleasure to Dp’s ears, ha!, and he thought I was the only noisy one.

Amanda also speak mandarin, the Chinese way, most noticably, she loves to use, 咱们 and rolls her tongue and emphasize on the 儿, in 去那儿,在那儿.
I don’t say that, but I suspect she either picks up from the nanny or from the Yuncheng dialect.
But well, my family finds that every funny and entertaining.

She picks up words from us, and uses it when we least expected. Like she uses 飞机起飞,to describe the plane taking off at the airport.
There’s plenty of other examples, which I would have rememebered if I only I update my blog regularly.
I am so going to hate myself for this in the years to come. I already am.

She is also working on her colors and counting.
Ask her what color is this, she would first say 绿色 for green, but when I go ask her again, she would look and say the correct color.
She once did her counting in the Beijing taxi, 咱们车上有几个人呀?一…二…三…四…五… 六七八九十! 三个人!
(One, two, three, four, five…sixseveneightnineten! 3 people in the taxi!)

Amanda speaks mostly in mandarin.
But knows her alphabets, numbers (1-12,14,15 & 19) objects, fruits and animals in both mandarin and english.
The longest english word she knows, and says it very well, is hippopotamus.
I find it too wierd to speak english to her in China, but now that I am in Singapore, I try to make short sentences to her in english, hoping that they eventually do make some sense to her.
Which also explain why she loves and is able to sit throughout a show, when it is in mandarin.

Since I am leaving Singapore, I have tasked it to her kao-fu to work on her english.
And if things doesn’t work out, at least the family’s mandarin would improve. At least, I think my Mum’s mandarin has improved

Just yesterday morning, Amanda woke up and said, 爸爸不要妈妈!Daddy doesn’t want Mummy
When I frowned and asked why, she smiled and said, 琪琪要妈妈!Qiqi wants Mummy!

Ouch!!!
Its going to be a very looooong (and tiring) three weeks for Mum and me!

While China has plenty of famous moutains, moutain hiking has never been my kind of sport.

They are not only very tiring, but also hours of hard work, panting and going up the slopes, my longest moutain climbing experience was 6 hours at Huashan in Shaanxi, it also made me swore off mountain hiking, unless there are cables cars.

During the October golden week, we visited a mountain in a nearby county.

However it wasn’t all that bad, the scenery weren’t too bad, and would have been better if it wasn’t foggy from the rain, and if we weren’t too busy looking down at our paths (so not to fall, again!).
Which also why, other than having tired calves, Mum and I felt the ache in our necks too!

Now that its autumn, the moutains and forest has plenty of red leaves, and we were told that there were lots of dandelion in summer.
I also learned from Amand’s playgroup two days before the hike, the dandelion has a beautiful chinese name, 蒲公英.
This is why I enjoyed going to her playgroup, we learn so much together.

Here are some pictures, we didn’t have the energy for more.
I leanred to relax and enjoy the moment, instead of snapping busily.

Comes with a funny name and introduction, we see no relation to Singpore, except they both have the same chinese character, 坡 for slope.

Oh yes! Its Grandma Alice in China.

Monkeys!
Amanda’s highlight of the trip.

At the nearby site, there are probably just over a hundred of these living in the moutain.
They arent as agressive as some other monkeys, we came across at tourist site, and they shy away from human.
Until, we paid their caregiver 20yuan for 2 baskets of apples, peanuts and melon seeds, then the caregiver would blow his whistle and sing for monkeys to come over.
Amanda was engrossed and very excited to see a baby monkey clinging onto its mum.
She wouldn’t leave till I told her I was going to get her one baby monkey online, but later changed her mind, when I told her that she would have to give it her formula and share her crib.

Grandma Alice misses Amanda, she came and visit us, so that we could travel back to Singapore together.
It also gave Grandma Alice more time to bond with Amanda, so that I could leave Amanda in her care, in Singapore, while Dp and I go Europe to visit his cousin.
Gosh! I am already missing her at the thought of it. She is so cute and quite a chatterbox these days.
Have been buying excessively, feeling guilty and making up to her…

And after a day of flying, from Yuncheng to Singapore, I felt like I gained kilos from serious water retention by the time I landed in Singapore.
