We do not have MacDonald’s in Yuncheng.
Though we do not feel deprived in any way, we have a newly-opened Pizza Hut, KFC and other China-brand Fast food chain, Dicos but, MacDonald’s is a very happy place for kids.
I remember going to MacDonald’s very often with Mom, when I was in Primary school and could eat a Big Mac on my own.

Lucky for Amanda, Grandpa and Grandma definitely make it up to her and me, by bringing us to the MacD at Tea Garden.
Being in China for a long time, makes me appreciate lush environment and simple joy, which I would have otherwise take it for granted.
And THIS! Was THE Perfect MacDonald’s exprience for Amanda.

Other indulging Amanda with fries and ice cream, (the little girl is such a picky and small eater) there were also the fishes and tortises in the pond.
It wasn’t just any fishes too, but big arrowanas and koi in it.
And to enjoy the view, we had to sit outdoor. And yes, it was very hot!

Hey… Fishy fishy fishy!

Amanda has always been kind offering and sharing food with everyone.
Here she offered fries to Um-Umm (she couldn’t pronouce 公公) and was clapping with joy and hugging Grandpa earlier at home, when he asked if she would love to have fries.

Um-Um... You want some?
Um-Umm… You want fries?

She must have been very happy and hungry that day.
Other than fries, she too had bread from our burger, almost finished her bottle of water, and later squealed with excitement when she saw Grandpa walking towards us with two ice cream cones.
I was screaming inside too. Because I was feeling really HOT and need to cool down desperately.

Yummy fries.

Now that I’ve kissed you, more ice cream, please.

After a satisfying meal of burger, fries, ice cream and coffee, we had more photos taken.

Hey Mama! Come join us.

She would have jumped into it...
Grandpa teasing Amanda…

Amanda loves water and shows no fear of it since young.
Without a doubt, She would have jumped into it, if it wasn’t for the pond’s residents.

And lastly, here are childhood pictures everyone will fondly remember if they ever had one.

We celebrated Andrew’s 20th Birthday last weekend.

Amanda's Favourite Uncle's Birthday.
While waiting for the camera to set up…

Amanda's Favourite Uncle's Birthday.
Errrmmm… Uncle Andrew is only… 2 years old?

Amanda's Favourite Uncle's Birthday.
Cosily seated in Uncle Andrew’s arm… and still waiting…

And then like every birthday at Home, we took the Birthday Portrait

Amanda's Favourite Uncle's Birthday.

This time, it was late, and everyone was pretty tired. But we all have no complaints about it.
Its very important, you know.

If you haven’t realised, Amanda had a pair of earrings on.
They are very light clip-ons from Barbie, because she’s starting to take notice in all accessories we wear.
Sunglasses. Watches. Earrings. Bracelets.
Or maybe she has taken a lot after me in this department.
I LOVE LOVE ACCESSORIES. I have many drawers of accessories and hair accessories!!!

Lovin’ her first pair of earrings.

In all of her accessories, except for the earring.

She is surprisingly comfortable in her own sunglasses whenever we out, she keeps them on.
And whenever she wants her sunglasses, she would point to her eyes and says 镜.
She LOVES them so much that she wouldn’t allow me to remove her watches, earrings and bracelet at bathtime or bedtime.

One thing she’s still uncomfortable with is accessories on her hair.
She will rip them off her hair and pulling few strands of hair in the process.

Blur picture. But I thought she looks like Grandma Alice here.

No hurry. I have a pouch of children hair accessories whenever she’s ready.

It so fun shopping for her. I make it a point going to the children’s department when I am out shopping.
I will probably regret saying this now, when she (perhaps, fingers crossed) starts throwing tantrums in the toys department store, few years down.
She is already showing lots of excitment whenever we are at the toys department.

Pigtails no more.

April 20, 2011

in Her Baby,Her Life

I have been neglecting this blog soooo much that I do not even know where to begin or write.

But let’s first start with Amanda’s hair.
As much as I love her in pigtails, we finally brought her to a kid’s saloon for her hair cut.
I brought to the kids saloon in Yuncheng before, but thought that I would be able to the same job at home.
She was still young and didn’t have much hair then.
But now, that her hair was getting unruly. I thought a trip to the saloon should help to tidy them.
Besides, its impossible for her to keep her pigtails on long enough without distraction.

There was no struggle as her eyes were fixed on Barney, on the screen infront of her and the balloon and sticker, I told she’ll be getting when Ayi is done.
She nods her whenever we asked questions and sat still enough for us.

I am sure you have seen enough of her in pigtails, but these are THE CUTEST (to me) pictures of her in pigtails…
We missed the entire Autumn season (last year) and current Spring season in Yuncheng, while we are in Singapore.
These pictures were taken before we left Yuncheng, one of few photos where she isnt all wrapped outdoor and is adorable in those tights.

Ready to go.

Loves running freely outdoor.

And here’s some taken the day before her haircut.

It was hot and getting dark and she insisted to be in her sweater and sunglasses.

Cute tidy neat pigtail
Neat single pigtail.

Another of her former unruly hairdo,

Messy Hair
BAD HAIR DAY!!!

Pictures of her new hairdo.

Having Tea after haircut.

Amanda would say, A-yi (hairdresser at the kids hair saloon) whenever I comb her hair.
(And yes, she could now say A-yi and a couple of other 2-syllabus word, instead of her usual Ah…)
Her new haircut somehow matches her mischevious behaviour. Though I wished that her fringe were a little longer.
But with a neater and tidier haircut, she certainly looked like she has more hair.

DSC00450

It was also difficult for me to take more pictures of her new hair, she couldn’t sit still enough for the camera.
But I believe you will definitetly be seeing more of it on this blog.

We have so much to do here, and Amanda is definitetly enjoying her stay here, learning and playing.
She sleeps little in the day and sleeps very late at night, which hardly leaves me time to blog, and I would really prefer to surf the internet or nap.

Will try catching up on more blog postings soon.

Amanda’s favourite of the week 2, originally uploaded by judebabe.

2 weeks of waiting in Singapore, Amanda’s favourite Uncle finally returned from his month-long training in Taiwan.

Amanda was beaming with joy.

It wasnt hard for anyone to tell.

Many times, with everyone in the family in the same room, She adores and has eyes only for her Uncle.
She is often smiling coyly at him.

She too follows him around the house, just like how Andrew followed me around the first Summer Uni holidays I returned from UK, some 10 years ago.
With Andrew around, it’s definitely easier for me to update this blog.

Andrew reckons he’s her favorite just for the weekend. And thinks the ‘novelty’ may wear off soon.
Coz it lasted only a weekend, the last time he returned from a 3 week training in Brunei.

Coincidentally, the last time when Ashley was Amanda’s favourite, it was also Ashley’s birthday week.
Just like it’s Andrew’s birthday this coming week.

It’s also funny how Amanda can be instantly attached to Uncle Andrew, she hardly sees him.
Since he’s often in camp, even when we are home.

Blood is indeed thicker than water.

Hiding behind my shades., originally uploaded by judebabe.

This is me hiding my new brows behind my sunglasses.

The sunglasses works well and hides my newly shaped thick brows very well when I wear them properly.

While I have well-shaped brows.
I found them too thin and too short for my round face.
They were also kinda too high and uneven.
Oh well, we are critical of ourselves.
And too critical for our own good.

I first did eyebrows embroidery last November. They faded till there was nothing left in a matter of days.
I did a touch up at the end of the month, which too faded with light traces of it.
I had another touch early this week.

After each session, I have these fierce looking dark brows for days.
I also looked like I have tried too hard with the make-up and OD-ed on those kolh.
They also made me very conscious.
I walked with my head down when I am not in my sunglasses.

Apparently my skin doesn’t quite absorbed the semi-permanent ink.
And hence, the last two eyebrow embroidery faded off completely.

Which would otherwise been perfect, in a natural shade, of course.
