Civilisation! We miss you!

in Her Life

After delaying the weekend trip to Beijing weekends after weekends… we finally found time to go tomorrow.

Top Priority. My Visa!
It is expiring next month.
I am hoping to apply for one that doesn’t require me to leave Chinese border every 90 days like the one I am having now.
Though its a perfect excuse to leave China every 3 months and have been easily achieved but somehow I feel restricted.
Will be running to a couple of places…
With the Chinese efficiency and Beijing’s traffic, I hope I can have everything done on Friday.

Shopping. For the new home.

Its still very empty. Especially in our bedroom… there’s only 1 bed.

The MASSIVE IKEA would be a good place to go to.
Pictures from our last trip to Beijing in August, the next morning we returned from USA. Jet-lagged.

We love buying from IKEA because its very Convenient.

IMG_0027

We can have the flat boards and everything else sent right back to Yuncheng.
With such convenience, I am also ready to buy a bunch of useless stuffs.
Candles, candle holders, throws, cushions, rugs, photo frames, watering cans or any other Pretty decorative but useless things that can NEVER be found in Yuncheng.
You can find useless things here but never pretty.

Will go early for breakfast- before the crowd start coming in and annoying us.
Breakfast, we found out during the last trip is ‘dirt cheap’ we can have everything on the menu and is still much cheaper than the meals we have been having in USA.
Besides, You can get a lot more things done in the early morning.

Shopping for myself… if I find something.
Its my birthday month, a month of celebration and November is coming to an end already.
I have yet to indulge in anything other than food and getting fat.
Online retail therapy doesn’t count.

Can’t wait to check out the new-to-me mall, The Village at Sanlitun.
Been reading so much about it from other blogs.

Will also check out the Kate Moss for Topshop collection at Lane Crawford.
I love window-shopping at Lane Crawford and On Pedder.
They have lots of pretty things.

In between getting things done, I will make sure we get to eat our favourite whenever we are in Beijing.
Chicken Rice at Lau Pat Sat. Ha!!!

I am feeling very excited and a little jumpy. Not because I am leaving Yuncheng for the weekend.
But caffeine from my cold medicine and my second cup of coffee for the day.
Been drinking lots of water and hope that I can go toilet often and pass out the caffeine.
Hope I can sleep tonight.

Lunch for 2.

November 24, 2008

in Her Life

(My Bad. I have corrected the link at the bottom. I wasn’t thinking…much!)

Lunch for 2.

We spent the entire day at our new home on Saturday.

We were craving for spaghetti for days, when we saw an Italian man eating spaghetti for a short 3 sec in the movie, Stealing Beauty.
We could have gone to a small cozy restaurant for authentic Italian spaghetti but I decided to do it myself.
(Note to self: Great Wall 1999 Red Wine is definetely better than ChangYu! )

I wished that I have pictures of the view of the (drying) reservoir we have at our dining table.
There were some ducks swimming then.
Ass up. And heads down in the water, fishing.

Nature right at our doorstep.
We too had some swan-like birds in the reservoir and once I saw an owl at night, by the reservoir.
Pity that jealous local authorities stopped water from HuangHe flowing into our estate.
Dumb thing to do. They are hurting nature and our view.

Its been a week since I stepped into the apartment.
And the moment I stepped in, I became very busy for the next 3 hours.

I washed, packed, swept, cleaned and cooked.
And I spent a good 45 minutes watering the potted plants.
I don’t exactly love plants or have “green fingers”… all the potted plants in our home are given by friends.
Apparently some plants do absorb the toxic chemicals in newly renovated homes and furniture.

I then spent the remainder of the day surfing the net and DP watching DVD.

The new home has no central heating and we were dehydrated from the powerful moisture-zapping electric heater.
Dp got sores on his mouth and me pimples. Signs of being “heaty”.
The red wine and coffee we had were just as dehydrating.

Waiting for our BOSE speakers we got in Xi’an 2 weeks ago, to arrive.
We can then watch the awesome D9-quality DVDs I have been getting online, with friends.
Will prepare lots of water to keep everyone hydrated.

Will return frequently and hang out in the day.
Too cold to sleep-over.

From photos taken early November, I thought I looked happier.
It must be very tormenting for me to dig deep into my wardrobe every morning vs a very open walk-in.

Can’t wait for Spring when we will return and stay for good.

(My thoughts and sentences are fragmented. Busy browsing a new site, StyleandtheCity.com)

One of a kind…

November 21, 2008

in Her Life,Her Shopping

When I was in secondary school (age:14), I used to tie a single strand of yellow DMC thread on my left wrist for no reason.
I thought it was really cute and wore it for days. Yellow was my favourite color then.
I didn’t want to take it off… when it was dirty I just changed to another a new thread.

Then one afternoon during band practice… my section leader asked me the significance of the thread on my wrist.
I said: There isn’t any.
He then insisted that I removed it. Unwillingly I did.

What I wear on my left wrist now is either a Tiffany, a black elastic band for me to wear my hair up OR Both.

Just a few years back, Hollywood celebrities were spotting red strings for religious reason. Kabbalah.
Carina Lau was also wearing one until recently. (For religious reason too but not Kabbalah!)

But what really caught my attention was NICOLE RITCHIE wearing one.

One of a kind HamsaOne of a kind Hamsa

I have always loved her style.
These images of her pop up in my mind whenever I think of her.

mr_fp_107234.previewNicole Richie Hits The Nail Salon

I would love to copy her style. But sometimes being 20x of her size is very hard.

I didn’t quite know where to look for the red string on her. Hers definetely wasn’t Kabbalah’s, as there was a little charm.
I didn’t even know how to start searching for it, I didn’t have the name.
I remembered searching for her famous CC SKYE bracelet on taobao last year, with little returned results.

Then yesterday, while searching for “Kenneth Jay Lane” (KJL) I found a seller who sells her famous red string too.
As well as that chunky CC Skye Bracelet. KJL and CC Skye are a lot more popular on taobao now.

Well, I guess you guys know what I am about to say.

YES!
I got the red string and found out the name for it.
Its called “One of a kind Hamsa.”
On her red string, there is a charm of a hand / “Hamsa”.
The hand / “Hamsa” is an ancient amulet for magical protection from the evil eye!
And the red string isn’t a string but leather. Also available in many colors other than red.

tony27_tw-img400x400-12214839507652993_charms-3

I got an updated version of it and in the color RED (current fav. color!)
I like it with a lot of charms.

I didn’t get the chunky CC Skye braclet. Too chunky.
But got a cute tiny gold-dipped wishbone necklace and KJL black and gold bamboo hoop earrings.
Both pretty accessories seen on celebs and now finally found by me.

Gold accessories are my current favorites.
Gold and yet fashionable accessories are not easy to find.
Which is why I got (paid a lot) for 14K gold Tiffany’s necklaces. There weren’t many taobao sellers offering modern gold accessories 2 years ago.

IT JUST HIT ME! Some Chineses love to wear their gold or jade pendant with red strings too!!!
As necklaces and rings.
Why didn’t I think of this earlier???
Tie a gold pendant with a red string and wear it as bracelets.
Hahahaha!

And I love KJL’s mostly elaborate GOLD chunky accessories. I would imagine Ashley frowning at them.
Hee…

Wearing Metallic Tall UGG for the 1st time.
The shoes width are very wide and I feel like a duck walking.
Comfortable.
And will continue to walk like a duck this weekend. :-p

Bbag Bug

November 18, 2008

in Her Life,Her Shopping

Once in a while, I get the B-bag bug. Again!

You can never guess how I was bitten. Again!

I dreamt that Ashley’s friend is a distributor of Balenciaga.
Ashley was showing me colors from the S/S 09 (like the new Mandarin…) in every style Balenciaga ever made.
B-Bag Heaven…
I remember thinking to myself, I have to get more than one! Coz they are all so pretty… … …

I have 4 now. 2 City. 1 First. 1 Twiggy.

my 4 bbags

Current favorite: Ruby First.
Currently using : Sapphire Twiggy.

I got 2 red bags when I was in the USA.
Bbag and a Goyard.

My 2 REDs.

Both bags were chosen by DP, himself.
I once read that Women in RED makes Man tick!
Since I wear a lot of dark colors I guess red bag works for DP.
My bags are mostly in neutral colors. Other than red, I have 2 purples.
A pop to my otherwise dark outfits.

I am now branching out to more Bbags styles.
Am LUSTING for a part-time with Gold Giant Hardware.
In comparison, I love how the Gold Giant Hardware stands out a lot more.

partime-gsh&ggh

ITS SOOOoooo ME!!!
I can totally picture myself carrying it.

I have refrained bags with giant hardwares as I expected them to be heavy like my Chanel Cabas.
And I don’t think I could last a day walking around with it.
But these are Bling-bling! TDF! (To-die-for – Abbreviation often used in The Purse Forum.)

And after browsing through the entire thread of “Celebrities with Bbags”
Its very clear that I need want one in GOLD giant hardware.
Coz I didn’t see any one celeb having it in silver.

nickycitygghpart-time GGH

I hope my buyer can score me one in the USA!
Rumor has it Gold Giant Hardware is not be available in Spring / Summer 09.
Its also funny how little the price for GGH changed in RMB from 1.5 years ago despite the few price increments in the USA.
Love the weak $$$.

As for the Chanel Bug, I had for the last year or so.
I doubt that I will be bitten by it again. *fingers crossed* *toes crossed*
I am crazy & shallow enough to own 7 flaps!!! All in different size from WOC to Jumbo and not exactly proud of it.
I am glad to have friends who genuinely share my joy in my bag acquisitions.

And as Gwen puts it. I am not shallow but lucky.

I also love how DP’s facial muscles didn’t move a millimeter,
when I told I want another 巴黎世家包包!

Just last week, I was feeling warm, happy and a little excited coz it was my birthday.
I was happy about living in my new home, the generous personal space, enjoying the glorious sunshine and a road trip to Xi’an that I have been bugging DP to bring me to for more than a year!
DP was enjoying himself basking in the sun at the balcony last Saturday while I was preparing Spaghetti lunch for him.
Was eating less, feeling positive about my body (still fat but not as fat!) and my skin glowed.

Then this week, The sun disappeared, my fingers and feet are kinda of numbed from the cold, I was back to living in our cramped old room, turning my packed, messy closet inside out / upside down and still can’t find what I wanted.
I am also feeling bored, bitter and missing the new bed.
I feel like a bag of water and my skin is dull & dry.
Hell, its raining outside right now and the temperature is going to drop every day for the next few months.
And my colleague is playing some sad depressing song on her PC.

Taken just last week…

Red and Beautiful.

NOW ALL GONE! Boo!

Anyway, we probably stay over at our new home for another weekend before we move back to the old room for the rest of the depressing winter.
We will turn both our electric heater on FULL BLAST (not very energy saving but we are too cold!).

Invited Dp’s Auntie and Uncle over for lunch and I will be preparing Curry and Bak-kut-teh!
Not too sure if they can accept the Southeast Asian taste. But this would be my second time having guests over for dinner.

Having friends over for dinner.

My first group of guest LOVED LOVED IT!
Coz in their impression I was somewhat spoilt and incapable of housework! They are so wrong.
I can cook and clean in my acrylic nails just that I have the luxury of choosing not to!

That night, I was mad with DP!
He would said that the food was actually only so-so whenever friends told him how much they liked it.
But thinking back, I thought I saw DP smiling to himself trying to conceal how proud he was that night.

But I can’t claim all the credit because the food were prepared with pre-mix I got from Singapore.

I honestly can’t wait to get back to cooking other recipes I did when I was in Uni or trying out new ones.
I remember having a lot of fun going to the supermarket and preparing food with Yunny then.

Maybe we will return to the new home to cook and hang out in the day during the weekends.
It would be nice.

Meanwhile I will try to recall if I saw any Sun last winter and start counting down to Spring / Summer!
